Hello Timothy, Thank you for your question.
First, let me mention that there is more than one type of greatness. For example, there is ideological greatness.
In fact, the ideology of freedom that America espouses is a greater greatness than its economic greatness.
Now back to your question.
The answer is a conditional no. The economic greatness of a nation is
first and foremost dependent on the ingenuity of its people. America's inventiveness is still vibrant. So as long as this inventiveness
remains vibrant, the current economic crisis will just be a temporary setback, albeit a potentially long setback.
So, policy makers must encourage inventiveness and provide an enabling evironment for it, especially in light of the onset of skilled workers immigrating to other countries.
There is a correction going on with respect to wreckless investment strategies in financial institutions, and
wreckless consumerism. So, the current economic crisis is the beginning of the end of inordinate profit ambition
in some business sectors and inordinate consumerism in general.
